Windows NT 4.0 ISP Setup
This is for a PPP account Only!
First thing you should do is remove all services and protocols from the Network applet in Control Panel. This will let us start fresh. After removing these services go ahead and reboot. After rebooting go back into the Network applet. It will ask you if you would like to install networking at this time. SELECT NO. Once in the Network applet go to services and install the following: NetBIOS Interface, Remote Access Service, RPC Configuration, Server and Workstation. When installing the Remote Access Service (RAS) this will detect your modem, then select Network in the Remote Access Setup box and check TCP\IP. While in the RAS properties box select configure and make sure that your modem is configured to dial out. Once finished in this box select Continue. Now that you have all of the services installed select the Protocol tab and make sure TCP\IP is selected. Now select the bindings tab. This will configure the bindings to TCP\IP. No changes here now. Once the bindings are configured select the Protocols tab again. Then double click on the TCP\IP protocol and select the DNS tab. In this box is where you need to enter the information about your ISP. The Host Name will be your user\login name that you use to log into your ISP. The Domain will be your ISP's domain name, something like avana.net (That's mine). In the DNS Service Search Order you need to put your ISP's IP address something like 205.230.107.3. The Domain Suffix Search Order will be the same thing that you put in the Domain in the top right of this window. Once this is done select OK until your back at your desktop. You will be prompted to reboot so the changes can take effect. Go ahead and reboot. After rebooting go to Start\Programs\Accessories\Dial-Up Networking. In the Phonebook select the More button and then select Edit entry and modem properties. I'm assuming that you already have your ISP's entry in the phonebook. In the next window select the Server tab. TCP\IP should already be checked here. Now select the TCP\IP Settings button, Server assigned IP Address should be selected at the top and Specify name server address should be selected in the center of the page. Enter the ISP's Primary and Secondary IP Address in to the Primary and Secondary DNS boxes. Also in this box there should be a check mark for Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network. Now select OK and then the Script tab. Here select none. Now select the Security tab and make sure the Accept any authentication including clear text is selected. Now select OK. Now dial your provider. This should do it. Good luck with this it can be very finiky.
